The presence of gold or platinum trim on the rims of many china collections means that it is not possible to use the plates, bowls or cups in a micro-wave. If you try, you will hear crackling and you will see sparks through the glass of the micro-wave door. When the items are removed from the micro-wave stains on the metallic trim and, in certain circumstances, parts of the trim will have lifted from the glaze.
In addition, placing china with gold or platinum trim can damage you micro-wave.
If your china pattern does not have a gold or platinum border you are free to use a micro-wave to warm your food.
